Part Two: What's Actually Inside Your Detergent
You probably don't read your detergent label. That's not a criticism — almost no one does. The print is small, the chemistry is dense, and the names sound like they were assembled by a Scrabble bot.
But it's worth knowing what's in there. Because some of these ingredients are flagged by the FDA, EWG, or independent dermatologists as things you'd rather not have soaked into your sheets at night.
Here's the conventional-detergent rogues' gallery:
1,4-Dioxane. A byproduct of certain manufacturing processes. The EPA classifies it as a likely human carcinogen. It shows up in many sulfate-based detergents as an unintentional contaminant. It doesn't have to be listed on the label.
Optical brighteners. Chemicals that don't actually clean — they trick your eye into thinking your whites are whiter by reflecting UV light differently. They're a known skin irritant for sensitive skin and they get rinsed into waterways, where they're toxic to aquatic life.
Phosphates. Banned in laundry detergent in most US states because of how badly they fuel algal blooms in lakes and rivers. (Spoiler: still legal in dish detergent, where they continue to wreck waterways.)
Synthetic fragrance. A legal black box. The word "fragrance" on a label can hide up to 3,000+ undisclosed chemicals, including phthalates linked to hormone disruption. You don't know what you're smelling. The manufacturer doesn't have to tell you.
Parabens. Used as preservatives in some detergents. Linked to endocrine disruption.
SLS / SLES. Common surfactants. Strip skin oils. The "SLES" version can be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane during manufacturing.
Chlorine bleach. Doesn't need an introduction. Lung-irritating, fabric-degrading, and a major source of household-chemistry-related ER visits.
Formaldehyde donors (DMDM hydantoin, quaternium-15, etc.) — preservatives that slowly release small amounts of formaldehyde. Yes, the embalming fluid one.
Now read that list and remember: this is what's touching your kid's skin every single time they wear pajamas. Touching your face every time you put on a clean pillowcase. Sitting on your towels, your bedding, your underwear, your gym clothes.
A few of these on their own, in trace amounts, are probably fine. The body handles a lot. Part Three: Wait — So What About "Eco" Sheets and Pods?
Good question. Because if you've already tried to ditch the jug, you've probably ended up with one of two things: detergent pods, or those thin little laundry "sheets" that come in a cardboard envelope.
Both have a hidden problem the marketing won't tell you about: PVA.
PVA stands for polyvinyl alcohol. It's the dissolving plastic film that makes detergent pods and most laundry sheets work. It's marketed as "fully biodegradable" — and technically, under perfect laboratory conditions, it can break down.
In the real world? Not so much.
A peer-reviewed 2021 study by researchers at Arizona State University and published in the Plastic Pollution Bulletin found that up to 75% of PVA from American laundry and dishwasher products enters the environment intact — passing through wastewater treatment plants and ending up in lakes, rivers, and oceans, where it persists as a microplastic.
In February 2024, New York City introduced a bill (Intro. 0114-2024) to ban PVA-containing detergent products in city stores. Beyond Plastics, Plastic Pollution Coalition, and dozens of environmental research groups have called for additional regulation.
Most eco laundry sheets you'll see on Amazon, Target, or DTC websites use PVA as their substrate. It's how they "dissolve."

Part Four: Why We Made a Sheet That Doesn't Dissolve
Let's talk about the actual mechanism. Because this is where the whole product makes sense.
A typical eco laundry sheet is a thin PVA film with some surfactants and enzymes embedded in it. You toss it in the washer, water hits it, and within seconds it dissolves — releasing its actives into the water before the agitation cycle has even hit full speed.
That seems efficient. It's actually a problem.
Here's why:
- A dissolving sheet can't catch color. Color catcher technology requires a physical substrate to absorb loose dye molecules in the wash water. If your sheet vanishes thirty seconds in, you have no color catcher for the next twenty minutes of the wash. The loose dye from your red shirt? It can absolutely still redeposit onto your white sheets.
- A dissolving sheet stops working before the rinse. The active cleansers and softeners are released into the wash, but they have no continued mechanism after they've done their first pass. Glory Days sheets keep working through the entire cycle.
- A dissolving sheet leaves something behind. Most "dissolved" sheets aren't really dissolved — they're broken into pieces small enough that you don't see them. Those pieces can be PVA microplastic fragments. They end up in your drum, in your rinse water, in your wastewater.
- A dissolving sheet doesn't let you see whether it worked. You can't pull it out and inspect it. You just have to trust the marketing.
So we built it differently.

About the product
What exactly is a Glory Days 3-In-1 sheet?
A pre-measured, ultra-concentrated, plant-based laundry sheet made from biodegradable bamboo fiber. It combines three products in one: a detergent, a fabric softener, and a built-in color catcher. The sheet stays intact through the entire wash cycle (it doesn't dissolve) and traps loose dyes and lint in the bamboo fiber.
How is the 3-In-1 different from regular dissolving laundry sheets?
Regular eco-sheets dissolve in the water and disappear within seconds. Glory Days 3-In-1 sheets don't dissolve — the bamboo substrate stays intact through the wash so it can act as a physical color catcher. The actives still release into the water and clean your clothes; the fiber stays behind to keep working until the spin cycle ends.
Does the sheet really not dissolve?
Correct. That's the entire design. The bamboo fiber substrate is engineered to stay intact through the wash so it can serve as the physical color catcher. After the cycle, you pull the sheet out and toss it (it's biodegradable).
What do I do with the sheet after the wash?
Pull it out of the drum (or off your clothes — it usually comes out with them). Take a look at what it caught (oddly satisfying). Then toss it in your compost bin or trash. Bamboo fiber is fully biodegradable.
Do the sheets contain PVA or microplastics?
No. Our sheets use a bamboo-fiber substrate that doesn't dissolve. There's no PVA film, no synthetic polymer residue, and no microplastic release into wastewater.
How many sheets do I use per load?
One sheet for a regular load. Two for heavy or extra-large loads. Half a sheet (tear or cut to size) for small loads or delicates.
Can I cut the sheet in half?

Are Glory Days sheets safe for HE (high-efficiency) washers?
Yes. Fully HE-compatible. Place one sheet directly into the drum — never the detergent tray.
Do they work in front-load and top-load washers?
Yes — both. Same direct-drum method.
Do they dissolve in cold water?
The sheets are designed not to dissolve. The active ingredients release in cold, warm, or hot water equally well. So there's no cold-water dissolving problem to begin with.
Are they safe for septic systems and greywater?
Yes. The cleansers and softeners that release into the water are fully biodegradable and septic-safe. The bamboo fiber stays in the drum and never enters your plumbing.
Are they safe for babies and newborns?
Yes. Purely Perfect (our fragrance-free option) is the safest choice for newborn and baby loads. Free from bleach, optical brighteners, parabens, phosphates, synthetic dyes, and fragrance.
Are they safe for cloth diapers?
Yes — choose Purely Perfect (fragrance-free) and skip the scent boosters. The natural softening agent can affect absorbency on diaper inserts. Always follow your cloth diaper manufacturer's wash routine.
Are they safe for pets?
Yes. None of our formulas contain ingredients flagged as toxic to dogs or cats by the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center.
Can I use them with sensitive skin or eczema?

What if I have a specific allergy?

Are they safe for delicates / silk / wool?
Yes — but for hand-washable items, use ¼ to ½ sheet and avoid hot water cycles. The plant-based softener is gentle enough for delicate fabrics.
Do they work on stains?
Yes — enzyme stain-removers handle everyday stains (food, body oils, dirt, light grease). For set-in or heavy stains (red wine, blood, ground-in dirt), pre-treat the spot first, same as you would with any home detergent.
Hard water?
Yes. The formula includes plant-based water softeners that adapt to hard-water mineral content so cleaning performance stays consistent.
